The 20th edition of the world-renowned Festival of Lights kicked off in Berlin on October 4, transforming the city’s iconic landmarks into breathtaking canvases of light art. For ten nights, beloved monuments like the Brandenburg Gate and the Fernsehturm will be illuminated with spectacular projections. This year’s festival celebrates “freedom,” marking both the festival’s 20th anniversary and the 35th year since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Since its inception in 2005, the Festival of Lights has drawn millions of visitors, turning Berlin into a glowing stage where buildings and squares take center stage. This year, the vibrant projections narrate stories of freedom, unity, and resilience, spotlighting important themes while offering a sense of hope and inspiration. The festival, a collaboration with renowned artists from across the globe, highlights diverse cultures and cutting-edge light technology that unites Berlin’s creative and technological innovation.
Beyond a visual spectacle, the Festival of Lights aims to raise awareness of the importance of freedom—not only in Berlin but across Europe and the world. Each evening brings new shows across the city’s landmarks, inviting visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in Berlin’s iconic streets and illuminated buildings.
